Suspend With Us

We follow strict protocols to assess and reduce the risks associated with suspension. If you have any questions about our sterilization processes, gear inspection and standards, or anything else, we are happy to share that information.

Always remember that we are available to support you before, during, and after your suspension. If you have questions, need assistance, require more information, or have specific needs, please let us know. We are here to ensure a safe and positive suspension experience.

What Is Hook Suspension?

Hook suspension, or body suspension, is the practice of temporarily suspending one’s body with hooks pierced through the skin. While many cultures throughout history have developed variations of this practice, contemporary suspension has evolved into a form of personal expression, performance art, and ritualistic practice. Every suspension is unique and each person sets their own intention for the experience.

Preparing For Your Suspension

  • Review the information about attending our events. If you do not have a lot of experience or exposure to suspension, see our photo gallery to get an idea of the process.

  • Be well-rested, hydrated, and nourished. Eat a small, balanced meal a few hours before.

  • Stay sober, as we cannot safely and ethically suspend you if you are under the influence.

  • Wear comfortable clothing suitable for the position you plan on suspending in.

  • Medical Conditions: inform us if you have conditions like epilepsy, bleeding disorders, or Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. These conditions could affect your safety and our approach to your suspension.

Things To Bring

  • Bring your favorite snacks and a reusable water bottle. We have filtered water at The Clubhouse.

  • If you want to listen to music during your suspension, feel free to bring a playlist. We have bluetooth speakers and we can also play music for you via Spotify.

  • We recommend bringing a friend, partner, or family member for emotional support.

  • Bring an extra set of clothes to change into in case of contamination.

The Suspension Process

Before the suspension:

  • We will begin by discussing your suspension and determining the safest and most effective hook placement. We can discuss your desired experience, intentions, and any other preferences.

  • Your skin will be cleaned with antiseptic and carefully marked to ensure precise hook placement.

  • We will pierce you while you lay on a massage bed. If multiple hooks are used, they may be pierced simultaneously to help minimize discomfort. We will not start until you are ready and we will communicate with you the entire time.

During the suspension:

  • After piercing, you will be guided to the suspension point where the hooks will be attached to cords, which are attached to the pulley system. We will make any adjustments that are needed.

  • We will gradually begin lifting you off the ground, maintaining clear communication with the person operating the pulleys to adjust tension slowly and safely.

  • Please communicate with us at any time if you feel uncomfortable, need to pause, or adjust the pace.

  • Take as much time as you need — this is your experience. We will be there to support you. You may also have a friend hold your hand or just hold space nearby. Once off the ground, you may swing, spin, or move in whatever way feels right for you.

  • You may experience a wide range of emotions, from joy and euphoria to sadness or release. You may laugh. You may cry. All of this is normal. Every suspension is different, and we are here to support you emotionally and physically throughout the process.

After the suspension:

  • When you are ready, the person operating the pulleys will gently lower you back to the ground.

  • We will release any remaining tension and detach the hooks from the cords.

  • As your body returns to the ground and tension is released, you may again experience strong emotions. This is very normal, and we will continue to support you through this transition.

  • When you are ready, we will guide you back to the massage bed, where we will remove the hooks, clean your skin, and bandage the wounds.

  • On the massage bed, you may again experience intense emotions. This is very normal, and we will be there to support you.

  • Please refer to our aftercare guide for detailed information on healing and recovery. Please contact us with any questions or concerns.

Documenting Your Experience

  • Photos are allowed during both the piercing and suspension phases.

  • Videos are permitted only during the suspension. No video recording is allowed during the piercing process.

Cost

The recommended donation for a suspension is sliding scale $75-250, depending on what you can afford. We appreciate any support that will help us keep our suspension practice sustainable. No one will ever be turned away for lack of funds.

Private Suspensions

In addition to our monthly meets, we are able to accommodate private suspensions. We encourage and recommend that you attend one of our monthly meets first. This will allow you to see our full process and know what to expect. We are happy to arrange a private suspension, if desired. Contact us for details and scheduling.
